Visiting SNC Lavalin and Teledyne Dalsa - 04/05/2016

After a short night, our alarms sounded at around half past six in the morning. After getting prepared and eating our breakfast, we headed for a one-and-an-hour drive to SNC Lavalin. SNC Lavalin is a big company in the energy sector and is amongst other things active in oil and gas, mining, infrastructure and nuclear energy. This morning, we visited the nuclear energy department of SNC Lavalin.

At SNC Lavalin they gave us an in-depth presenation about nuclear technologies and the recent innovations. SNC Lavalin is collaborating with many countries and organisations to build and run nuclear power plants. The main challenges of a nuclear power plant is making sure that all of the safety systems are absolutely working flawlessly. After this seminar, we had a tour in a demonstration control room of a nuclear energy plant, used for training and testing.

After this tour, we headed to Teledyne Dalsa. Teledyne Dalsa is a company based in Waterloo and is mainly engineering and manufacturing digital image sensors. We had a couple technical presentations from employees of different divisions. Afterwards, they showed us some of their clean rooms, manufacturing facilities and engineering labs.

At the end of the tour at Teledyne Dalsa, we headed back to our hostel and tomorrow we will be visiting the University of Waterloo.
